Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q:   Can I get multiple Bangles? My Bangle Ball hit the Target Ball, bounced, and hit the Target Ball again.
A:   Yes, as long as there were clearly 2 or more separate impacts, that's 2 or more separate Bangles, each worth 1 point.

  • Q:   Can I get a Bangle if an opponent's Bangle Ball knocks my Bangle Ball into the Target Ball?
A:   Yes, you can give other people Bangles (usually on accident), by knocking their Bangle Ball into the Target Ball. Each separate impact, no matter how it was caused, gives 1 point to the Player whose Bangle Ball came into contact with the Target Ball.

  • Q:   What happens if I fail to toss according to the Bangle Master's rules? Do I get a re-toss? Am I penalized?
A:   Officially, if you fail to toss according to the Bangle Master Rules, there are no re-tosses and your Bangle Ball is invalid for the round. Bangle Yard Game encourages people to play nice, and decide on house rules that work best for your particular group. We at 3ManPorch LLC usually give 1 warning, with 1 re-toss, when playing with beginners. Once everyone is familiar with the game, part of the fun is successfully following the Bangle Master's rules.

  • Q:   Can I toss against the Bangle Master's rules on purpose?
A:    Yes and No. You can NOT deliberately toss from a different location (walking right up to the Target Ball, for example), but you CAN intentionally toss a different way (at the expense of causing your Bangle Ball to be invalid for the round), in order to strategically affect any Bangle Balls remaining in play. For example, if your opponent's Bangle Ball is sitting closest to the Target Ball, and you're supposed to bounce off the tree first, you can instead aim directly for their Bangle Ball, to try knocking it away from the Target Ball. You can also intentionally "drop" a toss, effectively skipping your turn. We call that "checking".

  • Q:   If a Bangle Ball is "Invalid", what does that mean?
A:   If you fail to toss according to the Bangle Master's rules, or deliberately toss against the Bangle Master's rules, your Bangle Ball is considered "invalid" for the round. It remains in play and can affect other Bangle Balls, but can not score you any points or cause you to become Bangle Master.

  • Q:   Can I get a Bangle while my Bangle Ball is touching the Target Ball?
A:    While a Bangle Ball is at rest and in direct contact with the Target Ball (visibly touching), that Bangle Ball is ineligible for a Bangle.  A Bangle Ball becomes eligible for a Bangle again, when it leaves contact with the Target Ball. It is good practice to check if they are touching before each toss, and watch for separations during game play. We like to call out "Eligible" or "Ineligible", before each toss, if there are Bangle Balls extremely close to, or touching the Target Ball.

  • Q:  The Bangle Master did not specify a tossing order. Who goes first?
A:   If the Bangle Master does not specify a tossing order, you may declare "Challenge" before anyone tosses, and challenge other players to see who goes next, with games of Rock/Paper/Scissors. Otherwise if no one challenges, whoever tosses first goes first. Once the tossing order is selected, it can not change that round.

  • Q:  What happens if a player tosses out of order?
A:   Officially, tossing out of order is a miss-toss and is invalid. For friendly games, we usually just tease that person and keep playing.

  • Q:  The Bangle Master designed a round that is unreasonable/unfair. What do I do?
A:   Declare, "Unreasonable!" before the round begins. If most players agree it's unreasonable, the Bangle Master should redesign the round. We consider any rounds that involve risk of damage to property or persons unreasonable, also anything that is nearly impossible to do. Do not toss towards the street, windows, people, or animals. Use common sense, and have fun! Design a round that is challenging, but not impossible.

  • Q:   At the end of the round, 2 or more players are equally close to the Target Ball. Who wins the round?
A:   For more competitive games, we use a measuring tape. If, after measuring the distances, 2 or more players are equally close to the Target Ball, decide on the winner with a round of Rock/Paper/Scissors.

  • Q:   At the end of the round, my Bangle Ball is closest to the Target Ball, but is also in a Negative Zone. What happens?
A:    You get 1 point for being closest, and negative 1 point for being in a negative zone. That equals 0 points. You become Bangle Master, but your score remains the same.

  • Q:   If I toss a Blind Bangle (unable to see the Target Ball), how will I know if I impacted the Target Ball?
A:   Ask a friend to be a spotter and/or open your eyes after the toss.

  • Q:   What if 2 or more players have tied for the win, played a tie-breaker round, and are tied again?
A:   Play additional tie-breaker rounds until 1 player wins (finishes a tie-breaker round with more points than any other player).

  • Q:   I'm colorblind and am unable to see a red Target Ball on green grass. What should I do?
A:   In the "Notes" section of your order, you can request a Target Ball in the color of your choice (white, for example). If you already have a clean and unused red Target Ball, and want to exchange it for another color, please contact us.

  • Q:   What shape are Bangle Balls? Why?
A:   Although we consider them romantic solids, Bangle Balls are actually platonic solids called icosahedrons (20-sided polyhedrons). See the Platonic Solids Wikipedia Page for more information. This unique shape makes Bangle Balls wildly unpredictable when rolled or tossed, and the flat edges are perfect for balancing the Target Ball in interesting places.

  • Q:   I live in Seattle, can I pick up a set instead of paying for shipping?
A:   For customers who live in the greater Seattle area and want to pick up a set, we have a Local Pickup option (only valid on orders being picked/dropped off), then select "Local Pickup/Free Shipping" Contact Us with any questions. Thanks!
